Welcome to our Winter class page. Our Classroom looks a little different at the moment because everyone has a desk facing the front and some of our usual play areas have been tidied away for a while, however but we are still finding ways to play and have fun and learning to be responsible for all our own things.
We have PE on a Wednesday morning and at the moment we are coming to school in our PE kits on that day. We test our key words and number bonds on a Friday with Miss D.  We aim to read with the children every week and change their reading book twice on a Tuesday and Friday, however sometimes our timetable does change to allow for other things such as assessments.
Phonics & English
We follow the Letters and Sounds in Phonics. Reception have learnt all their Phase 2 sounds And Year one have just finished Phase 4. Keep practicing thouse sounds and look for them in books, signs and lables and even on on the telly to help you child learn them! Read and share as many books as you can and encourage children to write simple sentences using words that can be created from the sounds they are learning. Below are some activities you can down load and some traditional stories you can read to your children - use the comprehension questions as ideas to talk about to get them thinking about what the characters are doing and feeling.  The link below has some free games that will use some of these skills:
Jolly Learning - Phonics - phonics
E-Safety:  thinkuknow & Kidsmart
At Keevil we encourage cursive writing right from the start. Although it looks complicated, it is actually much easier because all the lower case letters start with a dot on the line. This will later help the children to join their letters (a Year 2 expectation) with ease and without learning different letter movements. We encourage all writing to be in lower case form to begin with, not capital letters. Guidance can be found below along with some other some useful websites to help with your learning at home:
We have been practicing our Place value and comparing group sof different sizes. we have bee adding and subtracting and while the reacption children have been counting in steps of one, Year 1 have been counting in steps of 2,5 and 10. There are lots of way to practice their counting skills however the ling below will find you some fun games too!

We use the Interactive Learning Journey software 'Tapestry' to assist and assess recording of each Reception child's progress towards the Early Learning Goals. Tapestry allows children, parents and teachers to work closely together. Parents can access the Tapestry log-in page by clicking on:
